02 - 2 tbsp granulated sugar
03 - 1½ tsp baking powder
04 - ¼ tsp salt

→ Black Sesame Paste

05 - ¼ cup black sesame seeds
06 - 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
07 - 1 tbsp warm water

→ Wet Ingredients

08 - 1 cup whole milk or plant-based milk
09 - 1 large egg
10 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted or neutral oil
11 - 1 tsp vanilla extract

→ For Serving

12 - Maple syrup or honey
13 - Toasted black sesame seeds
14 - Fresh berries
15 - Whipped cream

# Step-by-Step Instructions:

01 - Toast black sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes until fragrant. Cool slightly, then grind to fine powder using spice grinder or food processor. Mix with honey and warm water until thick paste forms.
02 - Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in large bowl until evenly blended.
03 - Whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract in separate bowl until smooth.
04 - Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined—do not overmix. Lumps are acceptable.
05 - Fold in black sesame paste until evenly distributed. Batter will appear thick with dark sesame streaks.
06 - Heat non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or oil.
07 - Pour ¼ cup batter per pancake onto skillet. Cook 2–3 minutes until bubbles form on surface and edges appear set.
08 - Flip pancakes and cook 1–2 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with remaining batter.
09 - Serve warm pancakes topped with syrup, toasted black sesame seeds, and optional berries or whipped cream.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • The black sesame adds this gorgeous speckled appearance that makes breakfast feel special without any extra effort
  • These pancakes strike that perfect balance between fluffy comfort food and something稍微 more interesting than your standard stack
02 -
  • Overmixing the batter is the number one way to end up with tough rubbery pancakes so stop as soon as the flour disappears
  • The batter should be thick—if it seems too runny your pancakes will spread too thin and cook unevenly
03 -
  • If you can find black sesame paste called neri goma at an Asian market use it—the flavor is much more intense than homemade
  • The batter tends to darken as it sits so work quickly once everything is mixed together
